Mixing work and pleasure can be a tricky thing as one couple recently discovered. A flight attendant working for British Airways invited her boyfriend on a work trip. On a stop, things got a little crazy.

The boyfriend and the pilot were drinking in a bar, and a disagreement started. The argument spilled into the lobby of the hotel, and a fight began. An anonymous source was quoted as saying by The Sun, “He got hammered and ended up fighting with the BA pilot from Natalie’s flight,” adding that the boyfriend “hit out” at the first officer amid the “melee.”

There are no details available on what may have started the fight. Alcohol was said to have contributed to the situation. The flight was scheduled to go from Sydney to London with a stop in Singapore. The flight did reach its destination without further delay. Disciplinary action was taken by the airline.

The flight attendant, identified as Natalie Flindall, has been suspended due to the fight. Other members of the crew continued to London after the stop in Singapore. When questioned about the incident, they wondered why the pilot was not suspended. According to the source that spoke to the paper, “He was involved in the trouble too.” As of now, there has been no documented disciplinary action against the pilot for his part in the fight.

In response to the situation, a spokesperson for the airline stated: “We expect the highest standard of behavior from our colleagues and will always take the appropriate action.” There has been no further comment from the airline.

Disruptions like this are not uncommon. Earlier this month, there was a situation involving a flight attendant and an “unruly passenger” in India. While they may not be publicized as often, airline trips can get quite interesting before the plane lands. Incidents of this nature have become more frequent over the last decade.

If you work for an airline and invite someone on a trip with you, be sure to remind your guests to act accordingly. If they don’t, you may find yourself on an unplanned vacation.
