Britney Spears came under fire after posting on social media about "fat people," and also taking a dig at Christina Aguilera's dancers.

The 40-year-old singer shared a quote by Rodney Dangerfield on Instagram on Monday that read:, "I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people."

The mother of two went on to share her thoughts in the caption of the post, "I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children ... my dancers ... I mean if I had Christina Aguilera's dancers I would have looked extremely small."

She further questioned why people don't talk about it, and noted her "confidence would have been a bit better if I could choose where I lived, ate, whom I called on the phone, dated and who was on stage with me !!!"

Spears also shared it was "hard" for her to realize how much of her "womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn't say a thing !!!"

The singer concluded the post by mentioning how she will be active on Instagram, and continue to talk about things that "people NEVER talked about."

The post didn't go well with her 42 million followers, with many of them suggesting the singer delete it. Her followers even noted how Spears was "body shaming" background dancers.

An Instagram user wrote, "You need to delete this," while another one added, "Oof. Love Britt- but this was in bad taste. Body shaming to make yourself feel better is not where it's at."

"Oh honey, delete this while you have time," another Instagram user suggested. "Talk to someone to help turn you from a victim to a survivor," wrote another social media user.

Spears was on a weight loss journey, and had shared her excitement after reaching a milestone in October. She shared a video of herself dancing and revealing in the caption that she can "finally see some definition in my abs."

Spears is married to Sam Asghari. The singer shares two kids - Jayden, 16 and Sean Preston, 16 - with former husband Kevin Federline.
