  • BTS did not get this year's Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance
  • RM said their fans are more important to them than awards
  • "Let the haters hate. And let the lovers love," he said

BTS' leader RM has opened up about their Grammys snub and the criticisms the group has been facing despite their many achievements.

Speaking in front of a sold-out crowd at the "Permission To Dance" concert in Las Vegas on Saturday, the 27-year-old "Black Swan" singer and dancer said it does not matter for the group to not get this year's Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, which went to DoJa Cat and SZA for "Kiss Me More."

"Guys, I know there's a lot of noises out there about the GRAMMYs and the team itself. But, you know… Why give a s**t about it? Hating is their freedom. And they have their right to hate. But if it was me, I'd rather just talk with my friends in some cafe and forget about it," RM said amid cheers from the fans.

Kim Nam-Joon, also known as RM, reminded the fans (known as ARMY) of the purpose of their Las Vegas visit. "We didn't come to Vegas for the GRAMMYs. We came to Vegas for the ARMYs."

RM said winning awards is important but it is the love for their fans that keeps them motivated whenever they release new music or when they perform.

"The record, the title, the accomplishments, the trophies – they're real important, but that wasn't the first thing — the first reason — why we started it all. All these things, right? These two hours: communion, energy, eye to eye, singing along, dancing together, this communication. This is everything. This is why we're doing this, right?" he added.

"I hope you know it. I love you, and let the haters hate. And let the lovers love. I love you so much," RM told the fans.

BTS delivered a James Bond-inspired performance of "Butter" at this year's Grammy Awards. Billboard later hailed the musical number as the Best Performance of the night among 15 other performances from other artists, including Justin Bieber, Giveon and Daniel Caesar, Carrie Underwood and Silk Sonic.

BTS' V, aka Kim Tae-Hyung, also made fans excited when he whispered something in Olivia Rodrigo's ear during the opening sequence of their "Butter" performance. While interacting with fans on the app Weverse after the Grammys, V said he had already forgotten what exactly he told Rodrigo due to nervousness. He said it was something like "You have to be surprised now."
