Captain Marvel is being touted as one of the most powerful superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it seems like that’s why she has to be introduced before “Avengers: Endgame.” Ryan Fleck, who directed “Captain Marvel” with Anna Boden, cannot wait to see his character take on the villainous Thanos.

“At the beginning of our movie, she doesn’t know how powerful she is,” Fleck told AMC Theaters. “But by the end, you’ll see that, uh … let’s just say this: I’m very excited to see what she does to Thanos in ‘Endgame.’”

The “Avengers: Infinity War” post-credits scene featured Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) being turned to dust during Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) decimation of half of all life in the universe. But before he was caught in the snap, Fury pressed a button on a pager that pulled up the Captain Marvel logo. It seems like he is calling on Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) to come to Earth.

As for whether “Captain Marvel” will actually reference that pager call, Boden and Fleck are keeping their lips sealed. Carol Danvers’ origin story takes place in the 1990s with Fury as a young S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. The directors wouldn’t say if the movie gives viewers a glimpse of anything that happens after Thanos’ snap.

“All we can say is this is a ‘90s film, a ‘90s period film. Where Sam Jackson is a younger version of Nick Fury,” Boden told Fandango.

“And Tony Stark hasn’t figured out how to become Iron Man yet, so ...” Fleck added.

“That’s all we can say,” Boden finished.

“Captain Marvel” hits theaters March 8 while “Avengers: Endgame” will be released April 26.
