UPDATE 10:05 a.m. EST: Late Tuesday night, Hamill elaborated on his grief in a longer note. Read it below:

Original story: Mark Hamill took to Twitter after hearing about Carrie Fisher’s death. The Luke Skywalker actor started playing Princess Leia’s brother in the “Star Wars” films in 1977.

Hamill kept his message short, making it clear that he was at a loss for words. His hashtag noted how upset he was.

Fisher died Tuesday morning after suffering a heart attack on Dec. 23. According to TMZ, she never regained consciousness after she went into cardiac arrest on an airplane. She died at UCLA Medical Center.

Hamill had tweeted after initial reports that Fisher had fallen ill. On Friday, he wrote, “as if 2016 couldn't get any worse... sending all our love to @carrieffisher.” He also shared more well wishes for the 60-year-old actress on Christmas with a series of images.

The two worked together on the first three “Star Wars” flicks and reunited in recent years for the latest installments. They’re both expected to appear in next year’s “Star Wars: Episode VIII.” The film, which still doesn’t have an official title, is set to hit theaters Dec. 15, 2017.

Unfortunately, Fisher isn’t the only member of the “Star Wars” family that Hamill has said goodbye to this year. In August, R2-D2 actor Kenny Baker died after battling an unspecified illness.
