The new “Cats” was based on the book of poems written by T.S. Eliot, “Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats,” in 1939 and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Musical Broadway. Whist the anticipation awakened the excitement of fans, there were some Netizens who were dismayed at the first glimpse of the film, following the release of its official trailer.

A day prior to Universal Pictures publishing the “Cats” official trailer in HD on YouTube, the film’s official Twitter account (@catsmovie) tweeted, “One night, one chance. #CatsMovie.”

There were some, in response to the tweet, showed their support to the new adaptation of “Cats.”

But there were others who took the other side.

Until finally, someone stood in the middle ground and threw a neutral reaction amidst the numerous “likes” and “don’t likes” replies.

Many who are unfamiliar with the story of “Cats” wonder what the plot is. In the report of Polygon, it was explained that the musical film did not really have a strong plot due to the material’s poetic source.

Well, to begin with, they have a tribe called the Jellicles. Through a song, each cat will tell a story about his or her life and justify why he or she should be allowed to ascend to Heaviside Layer —yes, cats have their own heaven too— and be reborn to a new life.

Contrary to the musical on stage, the new “Cats” film will not have the cast wear furry suits and make-ups. Thanks to the advancement of the technology, all the cat-like features and effects will be added in a digital manner. Furthermore, Universal recently announced that the director of the film, Tom Hooper, was planning to use a new technology that will enable the transformation of the cast, Town & Country reported.

Hooper, who also directed the musical film “Les Miserables,” will be joined by five-time Tony awardee for Best in choreography, Andy Blankenbuehler.

Meanwhile, new “Cats” film cast line-up are star-studded starting with Taylor Swift, Jennifer Hudson, Idris Elba James Corden, Judi Dench, Jason Derulo, Rebel Wilson and Ian McKellen with the introduction of Francesca Hayward.

The stage musical, “Cats,” had already gotten the respect of many viewers. The show earned various awards for Best Musical, including Olivier and Evening Standard Awards and seven Tony Awards.

In 1981, the musical premiered at New London Theater and lasted for more than 2 decades. In the history of Broadway, “Cats” is one of the longest-running shows making it one of the most successful musical shows of all time, according to Universal Pictures.

"Cats" will hit the theaters on Dec. 20.
