The Power of Three is always the key on The CW’s “Charmed,” but the trio hasn’t had much time to bond. The reboot introduced two sisters, Mel and Maggie, who just met their older sister, Macy. Viewers will see Macy struggle to find her place in the sisterhood. The actresses playing the new Charmed Ones told International Business Times about their new relationships.

“I think there’s like a learning curve with any new dynamic with a new sibling, and Mel is a little bit jealous and kind of weirded out,” Melonie Diaz, who plays Mel, told IBT at New York Comic Con earlier this month. “There’s some power dynamics going on because Mel and Macy are very similar, which I feel like is kind of common with sisters. There’s tension and then you love each other and then you hate each other and then you make up … It’s messy. It’s never easy.”

Sarah Jeffery, who plays Maggie, explained that her character is a little more accepting, as viewers saw in last week’s pilot. “When Macy is introduced, I think [Maggie] is a little more accepting of her,” Jeffery noted. “She’s generally the more optimistic one of the group, and so she’s excited to have a new sister. I mean, she has questions of course, but she’s very inviting and welcoming. And then Mel is suspicious and a little more realistic about the situation.”

In episode 2, viewers will see that a sudden third sister creates a new opportunity: they can outvote each other. The women will try to live by a “majority rules” system after Macy moves in, but that might not be the best way to go, especially since Maggie and Macy are a little closer right off the bat.

Madeleine Mantock, who plays Macy, likes the very different dynamics. “I love playing both equally because to work with Sarah is really fun, and we get to be like cute and sisterly and it’s kind of already there,” she told IBT. “Whereas with me and Melonie, the actor, we have that too, and so it’s funny for us to try and play these scenes where we’re kind of butting heads because we’re actually — the minute I look at her I just want to giggle. So yeah, it’s fun and also a little bit of a challenge to play those scenes where we’re not getting on so well because in real life, we have our little jokes.”

While convincing Mel that she has no ulterior motives is certainly stressful for her character, Madeleine thinks it makes for a compelling storyline. “It’s a fun dynamic, and I think it’s more interesting than having me kind of slip in and be like, ‘Great, well let’s get on with it, then.’ It’s fun to see and, hopefully, it’ll be a bit of a will-they-won’t-they with Mel and Macy, which I think is quite fun. You don’t often see that with sisters.”

There might be some bumps in the road, but Jeffery assured IBT that it’s all about the sisterhood at the end of the day. “As the season progresses you start to see them sort of lean into it and into the sisterhood, and yeah, they all become close in different ways.”

“Charmed” Season 1 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
