Chrishell Stause was upset over her breakup with ex-boyfriend Jason Oppenheim because it didn't align with her plans to have a family of her own.

Stause, 40, and Oppenheim, 44, called it quits after five months of dating. Both agreed that they didn't have the same family plans, but between the two, Stause had a hard time because she wanted to settle down.

"She's upset still. She feels like life has kicked her down quite a few times these past years, and that's been a hard feeling," an unnamed source told People. "She wants marriage and a family, so the fact that the journey hasn't gone as planned has made her feel like life hasn't always been fair to her. It's like a cycle of happiness, curve ball, happiness, curve ball."

The insider added that the "Selling Sunset" star is currently staying "positive" and strives to see the best in the people around her. And despite her public breakups and divorce, she is chasing the life she wants.

Although the "Days of Our Lives" star will be celebrating New Year's Day without a love life, the bright side is that she will start 2022 "with a blank slate and a refreshed mindset."

The founder of Los Angeles real estate firm Oppenheim Group confirmed their split in a post on his Instagram Story. He said that they had "different wants regarding a family." However, he described his ex-girlfriend as an "exceptional human being." Oppenheim also considered his relationship with the real estate agent "one of the best things that has ever happened to me."

Stause confirmed that the reason for their split was their different perspectives about family, saying, "Men have the luxury of time that women don't." But she noted that she still considers him her best friend.

"I am choosing to see it as a success no matter what label is attached to it publicly," she wrote. "Jason was and is my best friend, and other than our ideas for family ultimately not being aligned, the amount of respect and love we have for each other will not change going forward."

On Tuesday, Stause shared bikini photos on Instagram. In the caption, she seemingly hinted at her desire to have kids by joking about fertilizing eggs.

"Well, these eggs aren’t going to fertilize themselves," she wrote. "Or maybe they will…who knows. Until then, 2022, bring it on."
