General Mills' popular cereal Cinnamon Toast Crunch drew attention Tuesday after a photo went viral of shrimp tails found in a box.

Jensen Karp, a verified Twitter user and host of “Talk Ain’t Cheap Podcast,” on Monday posted a photo on the social media platform. The image showed two shrimp tails and a small piece of string in a Cinnamon Toast Crunch box he bought at Costco.

There has been speculation on social media that the cereal also included mice droppings.

Shortly after the issue drew attention, the company offered a response.

Twitter users quickly responded to the issue.

A General Mills spokesperson responded to International Business Times' request for comment but did not provide details as to whether the company received other reports of a tampered box or how long an investigation would last.

"While we are still investigating this matter, we can say with confidence that this did not occur at our facility," said Mike Siemienas, a spokesperson for General Mills. "We are waiting for the consumer to send us the package to investigate further. Any consumers who notice their cereal box or bag has been tampered with, such as the clear tape that was found in this case, should contact us."

There have been no other reports on social media of consumers having a tampered box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch.
