Teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg continues to gain attention and accolades for her international efforts to combat climate change, now receiving a nomination for the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize.

Thunberg, 17, of Sweden, was nominated by Jens Holm and Hakan Svenneling, members of the Swedish Left Party.

Holm and Svenneling noted in their nomination how Thunberg has worked to make politicians worldwide “open their eyes” to the problem of climate change, to push for immediate action to take action on the matter, and to make more countries comply with the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Thunberg has encouraged teenagers all over the world to skip school in protest of inaction on climate change. She also founded the “Friday for Future” movement, which advocates for similar school strikes to encourage political action.

The deadline for nominations this year was Saturday. The Nobel Committee does not publicly comment on nominees.

While Thunberg lost out on the Nobel Peace Prize last year, to Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, she was named Person of the Year by Time Magazine and was one of the winners of the Right Livelihood Award. Were she to win this year, she would tie Malala Yousafzai as the youngest Nobel laureate in the history of the award.

Former Vice President Al Gore was the last climate activist to win the prize in 2007.
