British band Coldplay announced Tuesday that it is postponing some of its upcoming shows for its "Music of the Spheres" world tour, as frontman Chris Martin receives a medical break for a serious lung infection.

The suspension will affect shows in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo scheduled between Oct. 11-22. The new shows are will be rescheduled for dates in early 2023.

"With deep regret, we've been forced to postpone our upcoming shows in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo until early 2023. Due to a serious lung infection, Chris has been put under strict doctor's orders to rest for the next three weeks," the band wrote in a statement posted to their official social media accounts.

"We're working as fast as possible to lock in the new dates and will follow up with more information in the next few days," the statement added.

Coldplay said that anyone with outstanding tickets will have valid tickets for the rescheduled shows or refunds will be available as well.

"We're optimistic that Chris will return to good health after the prescribed medical break and look forward to resuming the tour as soon as possible. To everyone affected, please accept our sincere apologies, and thank you as always for your love and support," the statement said.

Coldplay, who debuted in 2000, has released nine studio albums and sold over 100 million copies.
