A Colorado, teacher resigned after writing a message on a classroom projector which read in part, “I want to kill children,” school district officials stated Monday.

According to a report by the Denver Post, Kris Burghart, eighth-grade teacher of Otho E. Stuart Middle School in Commerce City, was placed on administrative leave Dec. 5 after he wrote the above message on the projector. According to Tracy Rudnick, a spokeswoman for Commerce City School District 27J, Burghart resigned Friday.

The note displayed on the projector read, “Silent reading … I want to kill children but I am a loving Christian man who never would hurt a flee (sic) so please sit down and read.”

“A student took a picture of it on his phone … the principal talked to him and he admitted writing it,” Rudnick said and added, "He [Burghart] is a very well-liked teacher, so it is unfortunate, but we don’t stand for anyone making threatening remarks."

She also stated the reason for the message might be a result of Burghart getting frustrated with his students. The school principal, Fabricio Velez, notified the parents regarding the suspension of Burghart in a letter, which read, “It was reported to me, by a parent, that Mr. Burghart had projected a message on the board that frightened some of our Raptors.”

“I can assure you that no student was in danger at any time. I will communicate back to you once we review the facts and come to a final decision. If at any time you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via email or telephone,” it said.

In another letter to the parents, Chris Fiedler, 27J district superintendent stated that Burghart’s post was unacceptable. In the letter, he wrote, “It is my firm belief that at no time, under any circumstance is it acceptable to threaten harm to our students — not as a teaching tool, not as venting frustration, not as a joke.”

However, some parents were not happy over Burghart's resignation. They took to the school’s Facebook page to voice their opinion.

A mother of a student wrote, “My daughter is so upset about this. She felt Mr. Burghart was and is a great teacher. We do not support this decision.”

According to a report by KDVR, a Fox-affiliated television station, a parent who supported Burghart said, “[He is] the most supportive teacher for any of the kids in this school.”

Another parent reportedly said, “He’s [Burghart] the greatest teacher at this school in my opinion.”

Some parents described Burghart as an asset to the school, other teachers and to the community.

A woman named Brandy Teter Waterhouse called on the supporters of Burghart on the school’s Facebook page, asking them to send emails to the school officials to let them know about their objection towards the resignation, the Denver Post reported.

The report said Burghart refused to comment on the matter Monday.
