An Oklahoma woman, who was cleaning up her yard, was shocked when her son was bitten by a copperhead snake.

Speaking to CBS/Fox-affiliated television station KXII, Colbye Devin said the incident took place May 20 when the family was cleaning up their yard. Devin walked into the home to take a break when she heard her son’s screams. She rushed outside her home to find out that her 7-year-old son was bitten on the foot by a baby copperhead snake.

"And I guess the second that we disappeared out of his sight, that snake slithered out and got him. That's like my worst first fear. I'm deathly scared of snakes but, for that to happen to my own son, I was horrified,” she recalled.

The boy, identified as Noah Ball, was rushed to a local hospital before he was transferred to Oklahoma City. Three doses of anti-venom were administered on the boy along with pain medicines following which he felt better. The boy was recovering.

"For a seven-year-old, he's acting so much braver than I probably would have if it had happened to me," Devin told the channel.

Warning other parents to be on the lookout during the spring and summer seasons, Devin said she will be more cautious.

"Just take your precautions. Please be aware. Watch your surroundings,” she said.

Meanwhile, Dash Stanley, Marshall County's Emergency Medical Service director, told the channel that copperhead snakes are not as venomous as rattlesnakes. Stanley added that the best thing to do after being bitten by a snake is to stay calm and not move the body part that is bitten.

"Sometimes people panic. They'll get in their cars and drive a hundred miles an hour trying to get somewhere. It's not that type of situation,” Stanley said.

A high school cheerleader in Texas, who was practicing routines in the backyard of her home and recording it, ended up capturing the scary moment she was bitten by a copperhead snake. The girl’s leg started swelling up really quick following which she rushed to her mother. Assuming that her daughter was stung by a bee, the mother put some baking soda on it. However, the swelling got worse following which the girl was rushed to Texas Children’s Hospital. She was administered anti-venom and was recovering.
