Daniel Craig got candid about his close encounter with Queen Elizabeth II.

The "James Bond" star was among the celebrities who had the chance to rub elbows with the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II. Craig appeared on "The Late Show" Wednesday and was asked about his experience doing a sketch with Her Majesty, which aired during the opening ceremony for the London Olympics in 2012.

"I understand that you may not be able to answer this question, but I'm gonna ask anyway: What's she like in private?" host Stephen Colbert asked Craig.

"Very funny. Wants to crack a joke, and cracked a joke about me," the "No Time to Die" star replied. "We're having our photographs taken and she just went, 'Oh no, he's the one that doesn't smile.' Fair enough!"

He added that he was "rolling around on the floor" with the Queen's pet corgis. "They're very friendly," he said of the British monarch's pets.

The Queen's dresser and close confidant Angela Kelly also shared some details about the sketch in her book "The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe." She heard the pitch during a 2011 meeting with Danny Boyle, who directed it, and Private Secretary Edward Young. She offered to present the idea to the Queen directly.

"Having listened to Danny's plan, I asked him and Edward to give me five minutes so that I could ask the Queen," Kelly wrote. "I remember the look of shock on Danny's face that I would be asking Her Majesty straight away, but there's no point in waiting around with these things: if she said no, that would be the end of it."

When the Queen heard it, she was "was very amused by the idea and agreed immediately." And Her Majesty even made a condition; she wanted her participation to be more than just an appearance. So, Kelly asked the Queen if she wanted a speaking part in the sketch.

"Of course, I must say something. After all, he is coming to rescue me," the Queen said without hesitation.

Kelly said she asked the Queen what line she preferred between "Good evening, James" and "Good evening, Mr. Bond," and she picked the latter.

"Within minutes, I was back in Edward's office delivering the good news to Danny — I think he almost fell off his chair when I said that the Queen's only stipulation was that she could deliver that iconic line," Kelly added.

Queen Elizabeth II and Craig's sketch garnered 53 million views and counting on YouTube. One netizen commented, "The queen has literally lived through all bonds, she is the real M," referring to Judi Dench's character in the film.
