Comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked by an armed audience member during his stand-up performance at the Los Angeles Hollywood Bowl arena on Tuesday night.

Isaiah Lee, 23, jumped onto the stage at the "Netflix Is a Joke" festival and tackled Chapelle while armed with a replica handgun that had a knife blade attached. Lee has been arrested and charged with a felony assault with a deadly weapon. Chappelle was not injured in the attack, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

“I thought that was part of the show, I didn’t know what the [EXPLETIVE] was going on,” Chappelle said following the attack. He continued on with the show as normal and even joked about it.

Security immediately went after Lee after he landed on the stage to arrest him, though he was allegedly uncooperative at first.

"The guy got to the back of the stage and they were kicking him and beating him up, it seemed like for a good amount of time," Brianna Sacks, a reporter for BuzzFeed who was at the event, told CBS Los Angeles.

"Chappelle was definitely shocked and was making jokes about it as it was going on. It was very chaotic, people were pretty stunned,” she added.

The organizers of the festival strictly prohibited attendees from using their phones, though clips of the incident have still leaked online.

Lee allegedly suffered from “superficial injuries” following the attack and while being detained. He was taken to the hospital to be evaluated but is now in custody, police said.

Chappelle was later joined onstage by Chris Rock who was also attacked by Will Smith during the Oscars in March.

An LAPD spokesman said that the incident is being investigated.
