He had finally found her again and was committed to being with her for the rest of his life after they removed the obstacles that were keeping them apart. However, following the explosion at Kristen and Xander’s warehouse, Eric will now learn Nicole’s fate on the Tuesday, Oct. 23 episode of “Days of Our Lives.”

After finding Nicole (Arianne Zucker) in Nashville on the NBC soap, Eric (Greg Vaughan) swore he would find a way to get her safely out of her forced marriage to Xander (Paul Telfer) so she could return to Salem and they could be together. After Sami (Alison Sweeney) also arrived in town, hell-bent on finding EJ, the siblings decided to work together to find what they each sought individually. However, things didn’t work out the way they had hoped once they arrived at the space where Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) and Xander had stashed a mysterious patient, Brady (Eric Martsolf) and the recording which proved Nicole had murdered Deimos (Vincent Irizarry).

Kristen and Xander quickly realized their secrets were set to be exposed, and after locking Nicole and Holly in the warehouse as well, everyone’s lives were in danger, as a revived Rolf (William Utay) tried to inject the patient with another serum to fully bring him back to life. However, the furious patient knocked over Rolf’s test tubes, setting the warehouse on fire in the process. Sami, the patient, Kristen, Brady, Holly and Eric were all able to get out—but Nicole was trapped behind rubble, and was prepared to die as the building around her exploded.

Now, in the aftermath, Eric will learn whether or not Nicole survived the blast, but for now, it appears the news won’t be good. Not only will he once again have possession of the necklace he gave Nicole to keep her safe, but it will quickly become clear there was no way she could have survived the building blowing up around her. As a result, Nicole will be presumed dead.

The news won’t only be devastating for Eric because it means he may have lost his chance to be with the woman he loved forever, but it will also be devastating because they had been robbed of all of their chances together. Now, what lies ahead for him remains to be seen, as he struggles with moving on in a life that no longer has Nicole in it.

“Days of Our Lives” airs weekdays on NBC.
