Started playing Death Road to Canada but can't seem to make it to the end? Check out our tips and tricks for getting better weapons, surviving sieges and lasting more days in the zombie-filled RPG

Last week, Rocket Cat Games released a new randomly generated RPG adventure game, Death Road To Canada, on iOS. The game quickly sucks you in and will become an obsession, despite the fact you’ll die more times that you can count along the way. If you’ve just started the game, then chances are you might be wondering how a person is ever supposed to survive past a day on the perilous road trip, let alone the two weeks it takes to get to Canada in the Zombie infested adventure. While we’ll readily admit, we haven’t managed to beat the whole game yet, we have made some pretty successful runs that last 10 days or more.

We pulled together some of the tips and tricks we gathered throughout the many runs we’ve gone in the game and put them into a list of tips we hope will help you make better runs in the game too. As we continue to progress further and discover better ways of doing things, we’ll make some changes or additions to the post. Also, if you’ve managed to beat the game or make even longer runs, feel free to share your own tips with us at c.harbison@ibtimes.com and if we like them, we’ll add them to the post – with a hat tip to you, of course.

Death Road To Canada Tips & Tricks

Staying alive is the name of the game in Death Road To Canada. Find out the best ways to do just that, here. IBTimes

Throw Anything You Can – You can’t choose which weapons (if any) you’ll be equipped with when you first start the game, and some of them don’t yield great results. As a general rule, if there is something I can throw like a chair or box, I pick it up and chuck it. It usually manages to put a zombie entirely out and saves your weapon if it has a short life.

Tap On Anything That Glimmers – Whether you’re in a junkyard or the Ya’ll Mart if a cabinet, car or other object sparkles, make sure to go tap it and grab whatever loot is inside. You’ll miss a lot of good stuff if you don’t. If you are in a house and there is a door that sparkles, that too indicates its somewhere you haven’t been yet.

Try Every Room But Don’t Go In All Of Them – Ok so this may sound contradictory, but what I mean is, you should definitely open every door in a house. However, take one step in, quickly survey the space and if you don’t see any supplies, don’t waste time fighting zombies in there. For example, if you take a quick scan of a bathroom and there are no sparkling cabinets or toilets with closed lids, there is nothing of value there so just skip it. The longer you stay in a building, the more zombies start headed there and they can form a mob behind you pretty quick. As a general rule, get in, get out, and then hit the road.

Run Away – no seriously, guys. Don’t try to be a hero. While in some games it’s a good idea to fight with all your might, in Death Road to Canada, it pays to be a wimp. The zombies generally move a lot slower than you do and so in many cases you can avoid an altercation by simply circle around furniture or dodging them. If there’s no way you can get to where you’re going without putting up a fight, then of course, slam those zombie skills into the pavement, but do you best to avoid hanging around in one spot trying to kill all the zombies coming your way. The longer you linger the more the hoard builds until you’re completely outdone.

Pick Up Extra Travelers – At the beginning of the game, players are advised to choose their comrade’s wisely, but to be honest anyone that is willing to come along with me I recruit to join my party. My logic is that two, three or four skulls are better than one. You’ll find more people means more protection and have a greater chance of making it for more days if you have several people who must die before your mission ends. The only time I might skip it is if I’m totally out of food.

Make a Quick Car Get Away – this is really more of a trick than a tip but if you’re having trouble taking off in your car, just hold down the button instead of pressing it several times. If you keep it held down, it’ll rev and take off on its own.

Loot Your Friends – Throughout the course of a run, you’ll undoubtedly have a group member die. When he or she does, make sure (if you can/it’s safe enough) to go pick up the stuff they dropped. You don’t want their death to be in vain, after all.

Have Your Characters Try Stuff – Ok so, there’s a lot of times when you are offered the option to allow someone to try to barricade a door, fix a car or some other non-dangerous task. In most cases I try to do these things as it yields a couple of benefits. First, you’ll find out more about that character/his or her expertise. There’s also always a chance the character will gain skill from the experience which is a plus.

Stop At Every Trading Post – You may not be able to buy anything, but if you check in with every vendor, occasionally you’ll find one that will give you something for free.

A Dog Is A Man’s Best Friend – You can’t always be lucky enough to add one of these to your team, but if one wants to join your party, definitely recruit him. Dogs seem pretty strong and resilient and don’t complain -- they are a great asset.

Make Some Custom Characters – I generally like to pick random characters to make my runs, but it’s a good idea to make some custom characters with traits you like a store them in the game. When you make your runs, you’ll sometimes find one of them along the way. It’s great to recruit someone whose skills you already know.

Save Guns And Chainsaws For Sieges – If you’re lucky enough to find the chainsaw, rifle or other guns, try to restrain yourself and save those items for use when a siege happens. You’ll be glad you did.

Stock Up On Bombs – if you find different bombs along the way, add them to your supply. Like guns and ammo, they will be extremely useful toward the end.
