Demi Lovato is finally opening up about the rough patch she went through a year back after suffering a near-fatal overdose and enter a rehab center for addiction.

While speaking to Teen Vogue, the 27-year-old singer revealed a lot of things that she learned during her time in rehab and shared that the most important thing for her now is to live “for herself” and never be “someone that you are not.”

The “Skyscraper” hitmaker noted that her journey in the past five years has been an eyeopener as she has learned that life is “not worth living” unless you are living for yourself. During her conversation, she also said that you can’t live a happy life if you are trying to impress other people.

“If you want to dye your hair purple, dye your hair purple. If you want to love someone of the same sex, love someone of the same sex. Be yourself and don’t be afraid of what people think,” Lovato said.

These comments come after she was widely criticized for her controversial visit to Israel. A lot of social media users shared a lot of hate messages for the musician. The uproar happened because of the conflict between Israel and Palestine. Lovato had to apologize for her visit and disabled the fans’ ability to comment on the set of those particular photos.

Addressing all the issue that happened with her in the recent past, the “Confident” singer noted that she has “overcome” a lot in her life but will “continue to fight” till the time she has the power to.

Acknowledging her battle against addiction, Lovato noticed that when she sees herself in the mirror, she always gets a feeling that this person has gone through “a lot” and “overcame” it. Whenever she sees herself she thinks that she is not a victim but a “fighter” who would continue to fight against her demons no matter what is thrown her way.

“I have a lot of confidence now because I have said the things I believe in. I know I can hold my own on a first date with someone. That’s what I see when I look in the mirror – a strong woman,” Lovato noted.

In related news, it was earlier reported that Lovato and her rumored boyfriend Mike Johson have called it quits after a whirlwind romance. According to E!News, the pair have mutually agreed to stop seeing each other. The media outlet also added that sparks had “fizzled out,” and that they “aren’t seeing each other or texting like they were before.”

A source added that Johnson still hopes that a “patch-up” is possible.

Their relationship started sometime in July when the “Sorry Not Sorry” hitmaker started leaving flirty notes for Johnson in her Instagram stories. Then the former couple took a vacation together and were seen together on numerous occasions.
