The imagery and symbolism seen in the video could suggest to fans and herself that she is at a positive place in her life, and is ready to be the best version of herself.

Here are six hidden clues fans might have missed in the new “I Love Me” music video.

Meditating Demi

At the beginning of the video, we see Lovato literally fighting with herself as another Lovato sits in the corner of the room dressed in all white, trying to meditate. Her two selves begin to brawl as she sings the lyrics, “Oh, why do I compare myself to everyone?” This scene is potentially a reference to the internal demons the star faced while struggling for years with an eating disorder.

The Red Look

Lovato emerges from her home in a bright red jacket, paired with matching red lipstick. The color could suggest that the singer is feeling confident and ready to take on the world now that she has realized it’s pointless to fight with herself.

Two Little Girls

Lovato struts down the street in her red ensemble right past two young girls who both turn to stare at the singer. This could be a reference to the pop star’s own relationship with her sisters, Dallas Lovato and Madison De La Garza, or it could symbolize the positive role model Lovato has always worked to become.

“Nobody was talking about eating disorders,” Lovato said in a 2018 InStyle interview. “Nobody was talking about cutting. I wanted somebody for my little sister to look up to. I took on that role because I knew it was important.”

Girl On A Stretcher

In 2018, Lovato was hospitalized for a drug overdose, something she has opened up about multiple times via social media and in interviews. In the video we see Lovato extend a hand to a girl on a stretcher, a small gesture that could be a reference to the overdose that then placed her in rehab.

“Black Bodysuit Girl”

While walking through the streets Lovato passes another possible reference to her former self: a girl dressed in a black leotard and black bob, reminiscent of Lovato’s “Confident” album era from 2015.

“Camp Rock” And Jonas Brothers

One of the first nods to her past life that we see in the music video is Lovato passing a girl with a microphone surrounded by three boys in a band. The figures in the video are dressed similarly to the Jonas Brothers’ and Lovato’s own characters in Disney Channel’s 2008 film “Camp Rock,” the movie that launched her career.

“Bride And Groom”

Near the end of the video, Lovato looks longingly at a bride and groom that race past her before seemingly contemplating the line, “I wonder when ‘I love me’ is enough.”

The married couple could be a nod to Lovato’s former boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, who recently got engaged, People reported. They were together for six years and split in 2016.
