On Sunday, Nine Network entertainment editor Richard Wilkins received the news that he tested positive for the coronavirus, ABC News reports. The Australian television journalist decided to take the test after learning that Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson had been diagnosed with COVID-19 on March 12.

“I’m surprisingly very well,” Wilkins told his network. “You could’ve knocked me over with a feather last night when I got that call. It took me a couple of minutes to reel from the news that they gave me. But I feel fine. I feel 100 percent.”

The 65-year-old met with Wilson on two separate occasions just before her diagnosis. The two posed for a picture at Sydney Opera House on March 7, which Wilkins shared on his Twitter. They met again at Nine’s Sydney studio on March 9.

“I bet Tom and Rita feel bloody terrible,” said Wilkins, who has quarantined himself inside of his Sydney, Australia home since learning that the couple had the illness.

However, he points out that there’s no way to be for sure that he got it from the “Momma Mia!” star.

“We’re assuming this is from Rita, but it may not be,” the journalist said. “They’ve all said it could be anyone, anywhere, any time, such is the prevalence of this thing,”

Although he doesn’t deny that meeting Wilson is what prompted him to get tested.

Furthermore, Wilkins’ son, Christian Wilkins, is awaiting his test results since he spent the night at his father’s home on March 10. Christian, 25, has been competing in Australia’s “Dancing With the Stars” TV show, which has gotten rid of its live studio audience as a precaution.

“I called him up after his show last night,” Wilkins' explained at the time. “He was and still is very, very upset. He’s going to get tested in an hour and, fingers crossed, he’ll be OK, which I’m sure he is.”
