Designer Donna Karan sent her DKNY Spring 2013 collection down the runway on Monday, evoking a downtown understated cool sensibility her urban line is best known for.

"What's a New Yorker?" Karan wrote in her notes. "Someone who's ready for anything. Day to night; street to chic. She loves a contradiction."

Karan's collection consisted of sporty denim and chambray pants and skirts, some paired with leather jackets and others with blazers. The palate was mostly white with pops of yellow, like a sleeve maxi dress and taxi-colored raincoat. DKNY showed some skin, too, with bodysuits, crop tops, mesh inserts and cut outs.

Accessories ranged from slouchy and roomy tote bags to, yes you guessed it, leather fanny packs. Yes, fanny packs. Those heinous 1980's hip bags, but this time updated for a casual cool New Yorker and not so out-of-place tourist.
