A U.K. man was banned from keeping pets after he “physically attacked” his dog for emptying the contents of his refrigerator and washing machine.

A court in the U.K. heard last week that the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) began investigation after getting reports that Brad Skipp was ill-treating his pet dog named Theseus. The investigators then found a video in which the dog was heard yelping in pain while being hit by the owner.

"A taped recording was made of Skipp, and in the recording Theseus can be heard yelping and screaming throughout, and thudding can be heard as though the dog is being subjected to a physical attack,” RSPCA inspector Miranda Albinson said.

Skipp said the recorded incident took place on April 19. He returned home to find that his dog had emptied his fridge, washing machine and cupboard and dumped all the items on the floor. He, however, said he only “slapped” his dog on the rear and shouted at it but did not physically harm the canine.

The 30-year-old was found guilty of “causing unnecessary suffering” and banned from keeping pets for 10 years. The court also told him that he cannot appeal to overturn the ban order for five years. He was also fined $924.

The incident comes days after a U.K. woman was banned from keeping pets after RSCPA found her pets living in a faeces-covered home. In May, 53-year-old Maria Warren was given warning after her pets were found living in a terrible environment. However, the advice was not followed and the RSCPA executed a search warrant on her home the following month to find two cats and a dog living in filthy conditions. Last week, she was given a lifetime disqualification from keeping pets.
