Canadian police were searching for a dog and its owner after the canine viciously attacked an 87-year-old woman earlier this month, leaving her with multiple bite marks.

Speaking to CTV News Wednesday, Jarmila Lacko said she was on a walk near her home on Oct. 7 when she noticed an off-leash dog sprinting toward her.

"It jumped at me, I fell down, then he started attacking me on my chest, neck. I’d get up and then he’d jump at me," she said.

The dog’s owner arrived at the scene and took the canine away.

"She put a leash on him and then she asked 'are you bleeding?' I said 'yes.' Very quickly she turned and started walking away," Lacko said.

She informed the police who were investigating the incident. However, neither the canine nor the owner were found as of Wednesday.

In a statement to CTV News, Bradley Johnson, an inspector with Calgary Community Standards, said, "We are still gathering information and looking for dogs that fit the description provided to us. We have expanded our search to the community of Lake Bonavista and neighboring areas.”

Lacko believes the canine was a pit bull. It was "cinnamon" colored with a white chest. She described the owner as a woman between 60 and 65 years of age.

Meanwhile, warning people about the dangers of dogs without leash, she said, "I would like to alert people, parents. Something can happen. Something can happen when that type of dog is off leash."
