KEY POINTS

  • Akira Toriyama previously said that there would be another "Dragon Ball Super" anime
  • Fans have been waiting for the official announcement of "Dragon Ball Super" Season 2
  • There are popular theories online claiming possible reasons why "Dragon Ball Super" Season 2 is not yet here

It has been almost a year since “Dragon Ball Super” anime concluded. While fans are enjoying the Manga as well as the promotional anime “Dragon Ball Heroes,” the massive fan base has this yearning of seeing Son Goku and the rest of the characters on their next adventure following the Tournament Of Power. But why is “Dragon Ball Super” Season 2 is not yet here?

Possible Reasons For “Dragon Ball Super” Season 2 Delay

Toei Animation has not yet announced if the sequel to the successful anime series is in the works. Aside from the possible new “Dragon Ball” movie coming, it was not yet confirmed if “Dragon Ball Super” Season 2 is actually arriving. One of the widespread theories for the delayed arrival of the anime is its material.

If “Dragon Ball Super” Season 2 would be based on the Manga, then it would not be that much. The Manga is roughly a 60-chapter material for the anime. However, it could be argued that while the Manga picked up where the first season ended and could be an inspiration for the anime, it is highly unlikely for Toei Animation to wait for the Manga before releasing the anime.

It can be recalled that “Dragon Ball Super” aired a few weeks after the Manga started. Also, a closer evaluation between the Manga and the first season anime would yield striking differences. Toei does not release a “Dragon Ball” anime that’s entirely based on the Manga.

The most likely reason for the delayed arrival of “Dragon Ball Super” Season 2 is because Toei has its hands full, and the production of the anime eats too much time. Following the finale of “Dragon Ball Super” season 1, it released the “Dragon Ball Super: Broly” just a few months later. Just this year, it launched the new game “Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.”

Other Details

Although Toei earlier made a specific division for “Dragon Ball” alone, with this amount of projects, the amount of content is overwhelming. The team also knows that the fandom has a high level of standard, so rushing the production and releasing a so-so quality anime would just disappoint fans. So far, these are merely theories and assumptions as to the major cause of the delay of “Dragon Ball Super” Season 2. We suggest taking this information with a good measure of salt.
