Amanda Seyfried believes disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has a whole life ahead of her but she must acknowledge her mistakes and take accountability for them.

Seyfried shared her thoughts about Holmes after playing the role of the former Theranos CEO in Hulu's "The Dropout," which premiered in March. She recently sat down with Jared Leto for Variety's "Actors on Actors" to talk about the controversial characters they portrayed. Leto recently played WeWork's co-founder Adam Neumann for AppleTV+'s "We Crashed."

Seyfried revealed she was not allowed to speak to Holmes before filming the series and didn't think it was the right time to meet with Holmes.

"I don't know. I would want to spend some time with her and know that I probably shouldn't, because I have in some way affected her legal experience. Right now, Sunny Balwani (former president of Theranos and Holmes' ex-boyfriend) is in court, and her sentencing may or may not depend on Sunny's sentencing. And so, it's really messy," Seyfried explained.

The actress also said the upcoming sentencing of Holmes and Balwani, who are facing fraud charges, is something she thought a lot about.

"I have thought a lot about the sentencing. We tried to figure her out from a place of compassion and worthiness. I know whatever she's sentenced with, it's what she deserves," Seyfried said. "And I also know, in my gut, that there's a space for her outside of this whole Theranos thing, outside of prison — if she goes to prison. Then she'll get out and she'll invent something new that'll work. I don't know if I'm the only person who feels that way."

Seyfried believes there are still a lot of possibilities for Holmes but she has to take responsibility for her past mistakes.

"I'd love to see her take responsibility in a very vocal way, which she has not. If she can just take accountability and move on. Yeah, she lied a lot. She's a mother. She has her whole life ahead of her. She's my age. I like to think I'm still young, you know what I mean?" she said.

The "Mamma Mia" actress told ET in March that she had put in so much effort in getting to know Holmes though she was unable to meet her in person.
