Dylan Rieder, a professional skateboarder and model, has died at the age of 28 from complications caused by Leukemia , reports said Wednesday.

“Today, October 12th, 2016, surrounded by family and friends, Dylan Joseph Rieder passed away due to complications with Leukemia,” Rieder’s manager confirmed to Jenkem magazine.

Originally from Westminster, California, Rieder started skating at the age of nine . He went on to make a mark by winning the 2001 Damn Am contest when he was 13. Over the 2000s, Rieder signed partnerships with brands like Alien Workshop, Birdhouse, F—ing Awesome, Huf, Osiris, Rasa Libre and Quicksilver, People magazine reported.

Rieder had not competed professionally since Feb. 2016.

The owner of the New York store The Hunt also gained fame as a model and was featured in a 2013 Alexander Wang spread for Vogue and a DKNY ad campaign with Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn in spring 2014.

“His passion for life, art, music, fashion and skateboarding has always been contagious. Dylan will be remembered by all as a loving son, brother and friend. In lieu of sending flowers, the family requests donations be made in Dylan’s memory to Dr. Stephen Forman,” the statement to Jenkem said.

Dr. Forman is an international expert in the hematology and oncology fields at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in California, and was treating Rieder.

Social media was abuzz with celebrities and Rieder’s fans expressing their condolences to the skateboarder-model’s family.
