Ed Sheeran took to Instagram on Tuesday morning to confirm the arrival of his first child with Cherry Seaborn. In the post, the “Thinking Out Loud” singer revealed his wife gave birth to a baby girl last week.

The new parents named their daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran. The 29-year-old announced the big news by sharing a photo of a pair of baby socks on top of a blue and green blanket.

“Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you... Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter - Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran,” Sheeran wrote.

So, what does the baby's name mean?

In Latin, the name Lyra means lyre or harp. However, the Greek interpretation of the moniker appears to have an underlying musical theme. According to Nameberry, Lyra is a name that is often used by parents who have interests in music, mythology, or astronomy.

In the field of astronomy, Lyra is a constellation name, which was taken from the lyre of Orpheus and contains the star, Vega.

However, there isn’t much history about the meaning behind Antarctica when it comes to baby names. The location is known as one of the seven continents and comes from the Greek word antarktiké, which means “opposite to the north.”

While the use of Antarctica as a baby name may be rare, there is a chance that Sheeran and Seaborn shared a special moment in the South Pole location and used their daughter’s name as a tribute to the memory.

Sheeran and Seaborn’s baby news comes more than a year after he alluded to their marriage on his album, “No.6 Collaborations Project,” E! Online reports.

In the song, “Remember the Name,” Sheeran sings, “Watch how the lyrics in this song might get twisted / My wife wears red but looks better without the lipstick.”

He later confirmed the speculation during an interview with iHeartRadio’s Charlamagne Tha God.
