  • Reeves talked about NFTs, Metaverse and crypto in an interview with the Verge
  • The actor said that NFTs are easily reproducible and not worth the hype
  • He also commented that he wouldn't want a metaverse by Facebook (Meta)

Keanu Reeves, known for his role in the critically acclaimed movie, "The Matrix," recently told the Verge that NFTs or non-fungible tokens are "easily replaceable." The fact was funny enough for the actor, who played Neo in The Matrix series, to bend over the waist and giggle.

Earlier in November, The Matrix team revealed a collection of around 100,000 NFTs, each for around $50. The NFT was sold out in a very short period and even caused a website crash holding the sale of the NFTs. The NFT series was brought to celebrate the release of the fourth sequel to The Matrix series, titled, "The Matrix: Resurrections." The movie will have its world premiere on Dec. 16, 2021, in Toronto, Canada.

Furthermore, in the interview, Alex Heath also asked Reeves if he owned cryptocurrencies. The actor's reaction was notable indeed as he seemed quite untouched by the concept of blockchain-based digital currencies. However, he did say that "a friend of mine bought some for me a while back" and said that he currently HODL's (holds) as he didn't get a chance to do anything with them.

Moreover, talking about the concept of digital scarcity and NFTs, Reeves broke into laughter and asked his co-star, Carrie-Ann Moss, who was also present in the interview, if they are "getting a cut" from the NFT sale so that he would take the potential of smart contracts and NFTs seriously.

Reeves also spoke about Metaverse and said that it is a very old concept since before Facebook rebranded into Meta and decided to build an empire out of it.

"Can we just not have Metaverse be like, invented by Facebook," he said. "Concept of Metaverse is way older."
