“The Walking Dead” star Lennie James is crossing over to “Fear the Walking Dead.”

James is leaving “The Walking Dead” at the end of the show’s Season 8 to join the upcoming Season 4 of its companion series, AMC’s “Fear the Walking Dead.”

James’ move to “Fear the Walking Dead” was announced during last night’s episode of “Talking Dead,” in which the actor was a surprise guest. “Yeah, it’s me. I’m joining the cast of ‘Fear the Walking Dead,” James told “Talking Dead” host Chris Hardwick when the actor appeared via satellite from Austin, Texas, where the zombie drama is moving its production.

“From the very first moment the whole suggestion of [my character] Morgan [Jones] going over to ‘Fear the Walking Dead,’ the hardest part of that, from beginning to now, has been leaving ‘The Walking Dead.’ Leaving that cast, leaving that crew,” added James, who starts filming “Fear the Walking Dead” today. “I’ve said my goodbyes to the cast and I’ve said my goodbyes to the crew. … That show stands or falls on the back of that crew. And I’m going to miss them very much.”

While a lot of fans think that James’ Morgan will appear in just one or two episodes of “Fear the Walking Dead,” sources told Entertainment Weekly that Morgan will actually be a series regular in Season 4 of the series.

Although news of James’ transition to “Fear the Walking Dead” was revealed ahead of his exit from “The Walking Dead,” viewers still have a lot to look forward to about his character in the remaining episodes of “The Walking Dead” Season 8.

“Even though Morgan is going to be featured on ‘Fear,’ he still has a lot of story left on ‘The Walking Dead,’” Gimple said via a statement read by Hardwick. “Morgan’s arc on ‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8 positioned him for the story on ‘Fear.’ It was also important to see ‘Fear’s’ world and characters through new yet familiar eyes.”

Aside from James, other new faces appearing in Season 4 of “Fear the Walking Dead” are Garret Dillahunt and Jenna Elfman.

“Fear the Walking Dead” Season 4 premieres in 2018 on AMC.
