Fifth Harmony became the talk of the 2017 MTV Video Music awards following their appearance on stage performing a medley of their songs “Angel” and “Down.” Although their vocals during the live performance were quite impressive, people were more interested in the not so subtle way they shaded former member Camila Cabello.

During an appearance on “Good Morning America,” the group explained their reasoning behind dissing their former group member at the award show. While taking the stage, 5H appeared to have a fifth member, but when the music started, the individual jumped off of the platform.

“We get asked all the time if we’re getting a fifth member and we wanted to show the world, in an artistic way that, ‘Hey, the four of us are Fifth Harmony,’ and we’re stronger and better than we’ve ever been. Honestly, it was such a monumental moment for us. We were at the VMAs! We had rain, we had splits, we had a mic drop!” singer Ally Brooke Hernandez told the anchor.

Prior to attending the show, the ladies teased an epic performance. Lauren Jauregui told People that their time on stage would be something fans haven’t seen before.

“We’re extremely excited. This is definitely one of the biggest moments of our careers — something we’ve worked so hard for to get to a place where people would want us on the stage, so we’re excited as heck for it… there are so many surprises,” she explained.

In the past, the group has insisted that they weren’t interested in shading Cabello. In an interview with USA Today, Jauregui explained that Fifth Harmony was focused on moving forward rather than dwelling on Cabello’s exit.

“But you know what? We’re so happy, and we moved forward, and we’re in a good place, and we hope she’s in a good place, and that’s really what matters. Everyone should just be in their own lane, do their own thing and stop worrying about everything else,” she explained.

Jauregui revealed that she wanted everyone to concentrate on their music. “We’re all artists — we’re not here for stupid back-and-forth drama,” she told the publication.

“We said our piece, it’s in the past and we’re moving forward, that’s the narrative we want to give,” she added.

The group previously had an issue while appearing on the podcast, “Bizarre Life with Dan Wootton.” The host continued to bring up Cabello which eventually led Jauregui to become frustrated with the direction of the interview.

“Like, what is this? We want to talk about our new music. We don’t want to be shady, man,” the singer can be heard saying before the interview cut off.

Jauregui later told USA Today that she doesn’t feel the need to answer any question she is uncomfortable with. “When people put you in situations that they know are going to make you uncomfortable it’s indicative of what they’re wanting out of the interview,” she explained.

“And at the end of the day, I don’t feel like anyone is entitled to information from me that I don’t feel comfortable giving. Because I am a human being, and I’m more than entitled to keep information to myself.”

The “He Like That” singer went on to reveal that certain questions aren’t worth answering because she has more to offer than just idle gossip. “I have a million other things that I do and that I’m proud of. And the group, there’s just so much more going on than the [false] stories that people want to spread. Making headlines out of drama, that’s not who we are as people,” the star explained.

Fifth Harmony’s self-titled album was released on Aug. 25. Cabello’s debut album, “The Hurting, The Healing, The Loving” is expected to to hit shelves this fall.
