Barry (Grant Gustin) will be reunited with Grodd (voiced by David Sobolov) in tonight’s episode of “The Flash.” And although it’s been a while since Team Flash transported the telepathic ape from Earth-1 to Earth-2 Gorilla City, Gustin said that Season 3 Grodd is basically the same one viewers met in the freshman run of the CW series.

“You do see a different side of Grodd [in Season 3, episode 13], but [he’s] still Grodd,” Gustin told Entertainment Weekly. The 27-year-old actor revealed that Grodd’s special connection with Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) is still there, as well as his vulnerable qualities. Gustin added that the hyper-intelligent gorilla remains cautious of his action, noting that “he’s had his reasons for all his choices.”

While Grodd has not changed much, it’s interesting to see how he has fared since falling under the rule of Solovar (voiced by Keith David), a fellow sentient gorilla who is the leader of Gorilla City.

According to synopsis for Season 3, episode 13, Barry, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Julian (Tom Felton) travel to Earth-2 to save Harry (Tom Cavanagh) from Gorilla City. The quartet, however, is immediately captured and brought to Grodd, who needs their help to stop Solovar from invading Earth-1. If that’s the real reason why Grodd lures Team Flash to Earth-2, then the gladiator fight that executive producer Aaron Helbing teased in the “Inside The Flash” featurette for episode 13 could be between Barry and Solovar, and not between Barry and Grodd.

While the identity of Barry’s opponent in the gladiator fight is unclear, Gustin said that the battle sequence is something that fans should not miss. “[It’s a] really, really, really cool gladiator moment for Barry,” the actor teased.

“The Flash” Season 3, episode 13, titled “Attack on Gorilla City,” airs on Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
