Candice Patton as Iris

Although Barry (Grant Gustin) saw a glimpse of the future where Savitar killed Iris (Candice Patton), it doesn’t necessarily mean that the journalist was the one the villainous speedster was referring to in one of his three prophecies.

In Season 3, episode 9 of “The Flash,” Savitar — through Julian (Tom Felton) as a medium — delivered a trio of chilling prophecies about Barry. “One shall betray you. One shall fall. One will suffer a fate far worse than death,” said the speed god, who claimed to have known the destinies of every member of Team Flash.

Since Barry saw Savitar stab Iris to death in a version of future that he accidentally found himself in, a lot of fans were quick to conclude that Joe’s (Jesse L. Martin) daughter was the one who will “fall.” Executive producer Aaron Helbing, however, suggested in an interview with TVLine that Savitar’s second prophecy might not be referring to Iris.

“The future is malleable,” Helbing said. “Anything can happen.”

Despite that, Barry will do anything just to prevent Iris from dying. “Obviously Barry loves Iris more than anything, and now that he has gotten a glimpse of the future, the thrust of the back half of the season is Barry trying to do whatever it takes to save her,” Helbing said.

In a sneak peek from Season 3, episode 10, Barry gets mad at Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) for not following his instructions during their mission to catch Jared Morillo. While Wally was definitely wrong for not listening to the Scarlet Speedster, it seems that it isn’t the real reason why Barry is upset.

In the midseason finale, Barry accidentally found himself in the future after he threw the Philosopher’s Stone into the Speed Force. There — as previously mentioned — he witnessed Savitar kill Iris. But moments before that, he saw a TV newscast reporting the closure of Jared’s court trial.

“The highly publicized trial of Jared Morillo, a.k.a. Plunder, comes to a close,” the newscaster said. “Morillo was found guilty of grand theft and aggravated assault after he was caught by the Flash robbing the Central City Museum earlier this year.”

Since the sneak peak reveals that Barry and Wally have caught Jared in the present timeline, it means that the day of Iris’ potential death is drawing closer. And that’s more likely the actual reason why Barry is furious after he and Wally captured Jared.
