UPDATE: 7:01 p.m. EST — The brother of the suspected shooter at a terror attack at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday was receiving psychological treatment in Alaska. Santiago's brother, Bryan, told The Associated Press he didn't know why his brother sought treatment and that they never discussed it. The family learned about Santiago's health problems from his girlfriend.

Santiago was born in New Jersey and later lived in Puerto Rico. He served in Iraq with the Alaska National Guard but was given a general discharge in August.

UPDATE: 5:45 p.m. EST — Esteban Santiago, who allegedly killed five people at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday was formerly a member of the Alaska Army National Guard, Alaska Air National Guard Public Affairs Director Lt. Col. Candis Olmstead told CBS News. He joined the Puerto Rico National Guard on Dec. 14, 2007 and was deployed to Iraq April 23, 2010 to Feb. 19, 2011.

Santiago received a general discharge Aug. 16, 2016 for unsatisfactory performance. He served as a combat engineer.

UPDATE: 5:12 p.m. EST — The shooter who killed five people at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport Friday served in the Alaska Army National Guard, according to media reports. Eight people were injured, but shooter Esteban Santiago's motive was not immediately known.

UPDATE: 2:08 p.m. EST — Airports in Miami and Orlando have beefed up security after a shooting Friday in the baggage claim area of Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport left multiple people dead. A person reportedly opened fire at Terminal 2 near the Delta Airlines area.

One person had been taken into custody, according to multiple reports.

UPDATE: 1:56 p.m. EST — All services and flights were paused Friday at Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after a shooting that reportedly left multiple people dead. The airport's Twitter account posted a statement that told potential visitors to contact their "air carrier about your flight information."

Meanwhile, Florida Gov. Rick Scott issued a statement to ABC News indicating he was en route to Fort Lauderdale to meet with law enforcement officials.

UPDATE: 1:27 p.m. EST — Multiple media reports indicated a shooter was in custody Friday after an incident at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida. One person was killed and nine others were shot, according to NBC News.

The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is the 21st busiest airport in the United States, according to its website, with flights to more than 100 cities around the world.

This past October, the airport made the news when a FedEx cargo plane caught fire as its landing gear collapsed. Nobody was injured.

UPDATE: 1:21 p.m. EST — After previous reports of a shooting Friday at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, an account seemingly belonging to the airport tweeted there was an "ongoing incident in Terminal 2, Baggage Claim." NBC News' Bradd Jaffy reported that one person had been killed, while nine people had been shot.

There was an apparent shooting Friday at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport, according to various media reports and tweets from Ari Fleischer, former White House press secretary.

"I'm at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport. Shots have been fired. Everyone is running," Fleischer tweeted Friday afternoon. He later followed up, tweeting, "The police said there is one shooter and five victims."

A public information officer confirmed to WPEC that there was "some type of shooting incident" at the airport.

Some 73,000 people travel through the airport every day, according to Broward County.

Other people claiming they were at the airport tweeted about a shooting as well.
