Fortnite adds new Steady Storm LTM and double barrel shotgun. Epic Games

Epic Games has rolled out its v5.20 patch for “Fortnite” and it adds a new weapon and a limited time mode. This week, Epic has added a new double barrel shotgun that can give massive damage in close range.

The new double barrel shotgun is available in Epic (purple) and Legendary (gold) variants. It can be found in floor loot, chests, supply drops and even in vending machines. The new shotgun is quite powerful and can be deadly at close range. This is also why the damage falls off greatly when it’s shot from a distance. Like other shotguns, the new double barrel shotgun still has 10 pellets. However, the double barrel shotgun has a wider spread and a lower critical damage multiplier of 1.25x. There’s also a 2-second delay when switching from the new shotgun to another weapon

The Epic variant of the double barrel shotgun has a base damage of 143 when in “extreme close range.” Meanwhile, the Legendary variant has a base damage of 150 at the same kind of range. The double barrel shotgun can only fire twice since it only loads two shells at a time. This should help in balancing its power and effectiveness in the field.

The new limited time mode (LTM) that’s included in the “Fortnite” v5.20 patch is called Steady Storm. In this LTM, the storm will constantly move in and will force players to move and stay ahead of it to avoid storm damage. Like in regular battle royale modes, Steady Storm will have players go at it until one scores the Victory Royale.

Steady Storm will have the storm close in over the course of 15 minutes. Another thing to keep in mind is that there are no safe zone circles; the storm will fully close when 15 minutes has elapsed, according to Eurogamer. Players will have to keep an eye on their mini map to track where the storm is headed so they can avoid taking damage. Speaking of damage, the storm in this LTM will do 10 damage per second, so it’s unlikely that anyone would want to battle while they’re in the storm.

The v5.20 patch for “Fortnite” also brings in some bug fixes and improvements in battle royale, including Vending Machine rebalancing, better gameplay mechanics and bug fixes. For the Nintendo Switch, the patch also adds significant GPU optimization that increases dynamic resolution by 10 percent. Epic has published its full patch notes which can be viewed here.
