“Frosty The Snowman” was created by Rankin/Bass and first premiered on Dec. 7, 1969. The song came before the movie and helped bring the classic to life. Rankin/Bass can also be credited for making other Christmas movies like “The Little Drummer Boy,” “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town” and “The Year Without a Santa Claus.”

Jimmy Durante, who narrated "Frosty The Snowman," ended his career with this last film performance. Durante had a stroke in 1972 and passed away in 1980.

According to Mental Floss, there was a short cartoon that came out in 1954 before the movie. The outlet points out that this short cartoon is more like a music video. This video is still broadcasted annually on WGN in Chicago.

The movie version of “Frosty The Snowman” was released in part because of how successful “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” was following its release in 1964. This was a smart move for Rankin/Bass because it is now a must-watch holiday movie still to this day.
