  • "Frozen 2" beat its predecessor as the highest-grossing animated film of all time
  • Olaf and Elsa died briefly in “Frozen 2”
  • There is no word yet on plans for a possible third installment

A new documentary on "Frozen 2" has shared a few interesting details about the movie, which dethroned its predecessor as the highest-grossing animated film of all time in January.

Disney+'s documentary "Into The Unknown: Making Frozen II" has revealed that the Olaf resurrection scene was a bit more detailed than what was shown in the final cut and that fire spirit Bruni was underused despite Disney realizing the character would be a hit.

In the movie, Olaf, who is voiced by Josh Gad, dies when his creator Elsa (Idina Menzel) loses her life. But he is resurrected when Elsa is brought back to life.

Speaking about the Olaf scene, animation supervisor Trent Correy explained that the resurrection segment he originally created had a moment where water droplets from leaves turn into snowflakes, forming Olaf. But that scene, which he says took two months of work, was trimmed for a better finish.

"The first thing that goes through your head is definitely the hours you put in,” Correy said in episode 4 of the documentary.

"It's something you have to remember that when a shot gets cut it's not just me," he continued. "It's the story artists, it's whoever rigged these plants or the drops, it's the lighters, the tech animators. When you're cutting a shot, you're cutting a dozen people's shot."

The documentary also revealed that Disney realized the appeal of Bruni too late.

Bruni emerged as the most popular character when "Frozen 2" was screened for a test audience for the first time. This is despite the fact that Bruni was not even featured on the list of characters that were then expected to become fan-favorites. Audience members apparently wrote in Bruni.

The audience review took place about five months before the movie’s release, and it would have been difficult to make changes that close to the premiere, Screen Rant noted. But director Jennifer Lee reworked the story to include Bruni in more scenes than originally planned.

Although there is no word yet on whether there would be a "Frozen 3," it's safe to say that Bruni will play a more prominent role if ever a third installment is made.
