Varys (Conleth Hill, left) reveals why he saved Tyrion (Peter Dinklage, right) in a new clip from "Game of Thrones" Season 5. HBO

The trailers for Season 5 of “Game of Thrones” have teased a lot of action in the new episodes. Now, two clips give fans an even deeper look at two of the upcoming season’s biggest storylines. HBO leaked the scenes online Wednesday – one that reveals why Varys (Conleth Hill) helped to set Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) free and another that hints at trouble brewing up at the wall.

The first clip shows Tyrion and Varys having a chat on a lavish balcony in the south. Tyrion questions why Varys took such an extreme risk to help save him. After first giving a half-hearted excuse that he was afraid to say no to Tyrion’s brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), Varys reveals the real reason: “I believe men of talent have a role to play in the war to come.

The secretive advisor seems to believe Tyrion will be essential to the inevitable conflict when the many would-be kings and queens in the show finally meet. This looks to be the same scene where Varys tells Tyrion that the next leader of the seven kingdoms could be a woman – aka Daenerys (Emilia Clarke). Does Varys want Tyrion to advise the Mother of Dragons?

The second clip was previously leaked via the show’s Three-Eyed Raven Twitter campaign. It shows Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) seemingly trying to convince Mance Rayder (Ciarán Hinds) to unite his Wildling army behind Stannis Baratheon (Stephen Dillane). Snow accuses the Wildling leader of being prideful.

The two scenes have one thing in common. It appears two aspiring rulers of Westeros – Daenerys and Baratheon – are gaining new allies – Tyrion and Mance Rayder. Fans will find out how it all plays out when “Game of Thrones” returns to HBO with the premiere of Season 5 on April 12.
