George Clooney advised Ben Affleck against playing Batman in the DC cinematic universe. The two actors played Bruce Wayne and his superhero alter-ego, and they both got some mixed responses for their respective portrayal of the iconic comic book character.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Clooney revealed that he had a conversation with Affleck years ago when the “Justice League” actor was still considering playing the Caped Crusader. “Don’t do it,” Clooney told his colleague at that time.

Clooney and Affleck got a chance to work together on the 2012 hit film “Argo.” It was during that time that the veteran actor shared his advice with Affleck.

The role of Batman in the 1997 film “Batman & Robin” was played by Clooney. The film did not do as expected at the box office, and Clooney had to face the consequences as the lead of the film.

Clooney revealed that his colleague Arnold Schwarzenegger was paid about $25 million for playing Mr. Freeze, which was apparently around 20 times more than what he got for playing Batman. Clooney said that the experience taught him to look at movies differently. The actor admitted that his film and his portrayal were not good, though he learned that he was not only playing a part in a film but was actually responsible for its success or failure.

Given his bitter experience playing Batman, he told Affleck not to take on the challenge. Still, Clooney said that the “Justice League” actor “did great” with his portrayal.

There is a new film about Batman that will be released in 2021, but Affleck will not be reprising his role in it. The actor shared his excitement about the film on Twitter earlier this year. More details about who will get to play the lead role in the film may be announced in the coming months.

In a previous interview with “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” Affleck admitted that he couldn’t crack the Batman character in the DC movies, so he decided to let some other actor try creating a different version of the character. The actor “officially” retired as Batman during the interview.
