A shooting at a Georgia food plant Friday left one employee wounded and surrounding schools on lockdown as police searched for the gunman.

A gunman entered a Dart Container Corp. building in Conyers, Georgia, around 7 a.m. and fired several shots, wounding one person.

The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office rushed to the scene, but the gunman had already fled.

EMS took the wounded employee, whose condition was not released, to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“Counseling support will be available to our Conyers employees and we will support the affected employee and family throughout this tragic event,” Dart Corp. said in a statement. “The facility will remain closed until further notice.”

In response to the manhunt, several Rockdale County Schools were placed on lockdown around 8:30 a.m. The Rockdale County School twitter account provided updates on the lockdown, saying staff and students were safe but schools were not allowing in visitors.

The Rockdale County Courthouse was also placed on lockdown.
