A 12-year-old girl and her 1-year-old niece survived a shooting incident that left three teenagers and a 38-year-old man dead in Texas. The man shot the three victims and then pulled the trigger on himself in what officials believe is a murder-suicide case.

The incident occurred after an argument broke out inside a home in Galena Park, Harris County, on Saturday night, according to USA TODAY.

"Galena Park officers and EMS checked the residence and located 3 females (ages 19, 14, 13) dead inside the house from apparent gunshot wounds," Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez shared on Twitter. "The 38-yr-old suspect was located dead in the master bedroom from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Family members said the deceased victims included two sisters, 19-year-old Sayuri Gill and 13-year-old Melany Torres, along with a 14-year-old family friend.

Gill was six months pregnant at the time, and her baby was also in the house, her family added.

The man was in a relationship with the mother of Gill, Torres and the 12-year-old girl who survived the incident. She was not at home when the teens were killed.

After shooting the victims, the man sexually assaulted the 12-year-old girl and then told her to run for her life, Gonzalez said, according to KHOU 11.

The shooter "proceeded to sexually assault a 12-year-old that was inside the residence. After that, he told her to go ahead and run from the house ... she did so and ran out of the residence without any clothing," Gonzalez was quoted saying.

The 12-year-old girl "stated she picked up her 1-yr-old niece and ran to a neighbor's house to call for help," Gonzalez wrote.

A neighbor, Maria Del Consuelo Reyes-Hernandez said she saw the 12-year-old girl with no clothes on while carrying her 1-year-old niece.

Reyes-Hernandez said she and another neighbor took the children in and provided some clothes. The girl also recounted to them the events that unfolded in the house, the neighbor added.

" … Just thinking about those young girls losing their lives. It's just unbelievable," another unidentified neighbor said.

The two young survivors were taken to the hospital to receive medical attention following the incident.
