UPDATE: 1:27 a.m. EST – Officials at SeaWorld, San Diego, confirmed during a press briefing that 16 people were trapped inside 5 cars on the sky ride at the amusement park. Those trapped include an infant and a partially paralyzed passenger.

Its been two hours since rescue crew workers have been trying to get the people out of the cars after the ride malfunctioned Monday evening.

Original story:

More than a dozen people were trapped on a sky ride at SeaWorld San Diego theme park Monday night. Six to seven gondolas stopped functioning after high winds tripped a circuit breaker on “Bayside Skyride.”

According to San Diego police, some of the trapped people were in gondolas suspended above water. San Diego Fire-Rescue Department arrived at the scene and were working to rescue passengers. The people have been stuck for nearly three hours.

Lifeguards were also in position in the water below the aerial tram assisting in the rescue with at least two boats, local media reported.

Photos of the rescue operation were shared on Twitter. A Fox 5 reporter shared a photo of two girls who were waiting in the parking lot as their family members were stuck on the ride. The two girls got off just as the ride was breaking down. Fox 5 also spoke to one of the persons trapped on the ride who said he received very little communication from SeaWorld on how they’ll be rescued.

On Monday, San Diego witnessed continued rain as temperatures turned abnormally cool. The National Weather Service issued a second frost advisory Monday evening.

This is a developing story.
