Google Home, the powerfully smart speaker that allows users to speak voice commands to interact with various services, is about to receive some major updates this week.

According to reports, the Mountain View-based company has just added a widely requested feature. The latest update will finally allow users to make and receive voice calls using Google Duo. The company released the update this week, just ahead of the planned hardware event this month, where it plans to release another new connected home device.

Google made a detailed guide on how to set up this great feature. First, users should head to the Service section, which located in the Settings of the Google Assistant app. Once inside the Service section, they need to tap the Voice & Video Calls option and then press the Video & Voice apps. The menu will allow the user to link their Duo account to the Google Assistant. In addition to that, there are also toggles to enable the feature for the smart speaker.

Unfortunately, this new feature will be made available only in the United States, according to the company’s Google Home support page. However, the tech website Android Police has managed to make Duo calls in Germany by changing the primary language of any particular device to the U.S. English language.

Google first released Google Home smart speaker on Nov. 4, 2016, where it features a cylindrical shape with colored status LEDs. In Oct. 2017, the tech giant made some follow up move, announcing two additions to the Google Home product lineup: the Google Home Mini and the much larger Google Home Max. The following year, the company released another version of the Google Home speaker system, the Google Home Hub. In May 2019, the tech company released again another version of the product, which features a 10-inches touchscreen display and a video camera.

In addition to making and receiving calls, Google Home also supports home automation, allowing users to control smart home appliances using their voice commands. The device can also be used in making important reminders and calendar appointments.
