Bad news for fans of the reboot of teen drama "Gossip Girl." The show has been axed by HBO Max just after two seasons.

Next week's Season 2 finale will now serve as the series finale following HBO Max's announcement that there won't be a third season of the show.

"We are very grateful to showrunner/executive producer Joshua Safran, and executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz for bringing us back to the Upper East Side and all the scandals at Constance Billard," HBO Max said in a statement, according to Variety. "Although we are not moving forward with a third season of 'Gossip Girl,' we thank them for the enticing love triangles, calculated backstabbing and impeccable fashion this series brought to a new audience."

Safran then shared his sentiments over the show's cancelation and announced that he is in search of a new home for the series.

"It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have to announce 'Gossip Girl' will not be continuing on HBO Max," he wrote in the caption of his Instagram post, which came with a black-and-white photo of the show's cast.

He then thanked the network and studio as well as the writers, cast members and crew of the show, before adding, "This was honestly the greatest set I ever worked on, top to bottom."

"We are currently looking for another home, but in this climate, that might prove an uphill bottle, and so if this is the end, at least we went out on the highest of highs. Thank you for watching, and I hope you'll tune into the finale next Thursday to see how it all comes together," he noted further.

Safran concluded his post by thanking the fans of the show, writing, "You're the reason we came back in the first place, and who knows, maybe the reason we will meet again."

The original "Gossip Girl" ran on CW for six seasons from 2007 to 2012.

HBO Max greenlit the reboot in 2019, and its first season premiered in July 2021. Its second season, which the streaming platform approved in September 2021, premiered in December 2022.

The reboot follows a new generation of privileged teens from a New York private school. They are the subject of blind items from a mysterious Instagram personality who spies on the students. The revival show takes off eight years after the original gossip girl's website was discontinued.
