Disney’s takeover of the Fox network is going to have an impact on its line-up of shows, and many fans are worried that “Gotham” won’t get a Season 5 because of it.

During the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour, Fox executives Gary Newman and Dana Walden happily announced that “The Gifted,” a show based on the X-Men series, will return for a second season. But when asked about the future of “Gotham” and “X-Files,” they remained quiet, according to Fox News.

“It’s a little bit early to be talking about that,” Walden said. “We are very happy with the creative [direction] on both of those shows but we don’t have anything to announce.”

The show’s executive producers are determined to make Season 4 the best one yet for “Gotham,” so whether or not there will be a next season will not really be an issue.

“While we're leaving a lot on the table, there’s going to be plenty left for us to put on the table after this season,” executive producer Bryan Wynbrandt told Comic Book. “I mean, we’re driving to a really amazing place where, talk about a cliffhanger! It’s going to be insane.”

Wynbrandt said they aren’t really thinking about the show’s future, since they’re concentrated on making the current season the best one imaginable.

“Right now, our focus is on the characters we have,” he explained. “I mean, we have, I think the biggest cast on television and every one of them deserves their own story. I mean everyone is so good. So right now we’re just trying to figure out the best way to service our cast before we introduce anyone else and for us the exciting thing for us is bringing in Jerome, pushing the story forward and we’re certainly going to leave this season in a place where people are going to want a Season 5.”

One of the most exciting things to expect when the show returns from its winter break is the surprising partnership between Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Jerome Valeska (Cameron Monaghan).

David Mazouz, who plays Bruce Wayne, told Cinema Blend that Jerome’s return only spells out trouble for Gotham City. “The second half of the season will mark one of the worst episodes in ‘Gotham’ yet. And, the worse the episode is for ‘Gotham,’ the better it is for viewers, right? Jerome will team up with some less-than-likable villains and they will take over the city and it will be a terrible, terrible fiasco,” he said.

“Gotham” Season 4 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
