The Joker (Cameron Monaghan) has a huge arc with Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz) in "Gotham" Season 3. Fox

The wait is almost over for Jerome Valeska's (Cameron Monaghan), better known as the Joker, big comeback on “Gotham” Season 3.

In the new promo for the Fox show, the sinister-looking villain appeared to be worse for wear. His face is cut up all over, and his skin is only being held together by staples running across his forehead.

Executive producer John Stephens earlier told Screener TV that the Joker will return a changed man this second half of the season. If people thought he was crazy before, he’s going to be even more “psychotic” this time around.

“He's not as nice as he was before,” Stephens said. “He's definitely changed. The way we talked to Cameron about it is that somebody who's basically gone through death and come back to life has a different point of view, a much grander point of view... [He] wants to see himself on a much larger stage.”

Fans would be thrilled to learn that the Joker is even going to start messing around with his future nemesis, the young Bruce Wayne (David Mazouz). “[Bruce] really gets pulled into the Jerome story full-tilt. We really see a big step that he takes, another chink in the Batman philosophy, another brick in that wall gets built, in episode 14 - and it gets built via Jerome. And Jerome will really be standing in for the person we know probably is out there,” he said. “To us it's very significant that that guy ends up informing this part of the Batman mythology.”

The Joker will also have some scenes with Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins (Morena Baccarin). However, the Joker, who was surprisingly killed off by Theo Galavan (James Frain) last season, still appeared dead in that scene. How will he be resurrected?

“Gotham” airs every Monday at 8 p.m. EST on Fox.
