Carol gets bad news in this week’s episode of “Great News.”

According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 9 of the NBC comedy, Carol (Andrea Martin) finds out that her parents are getting a divorce after 70 years of marriage. Although devastated by the news, Carol tries to give her mom, Roberta Scaramuccio, aka Grammy (Judith Roberts), a second chance at life.

As seen in a promo photo for the episode, Carol makes her 90-year-old mom an account on a dating site. And in a sneak peek from the episode, Carol brings Grammy to “The Breakdown” headquarters and asks Greg (Adam Campbell) to interview her for an intern position.

Unfortunately, Grammy isn’t the only one who’s heartbroken in the episode. According to the synopsis, Katie (Briga Heelan) is still hurting from her breakup with Jeremy (Reid Scott) and is convinced that love is dead.

Katie and Jeremy broke up at the end of Season 2, episode 8 after realizing that they’re too busy in their own jobs to have a healthy relationship with each other. In an attempt to move on from Jeremy, Katie goes out to a bar to meet some guys. But funny enough, a promo photo for the episode suggests that every man at the club is already taken.

While Katie’s recent split with Jeremy gives way to a potential romance between Katie and Greg (Adam Campbell), the two are still unlikely to become lovers as Greg is still in a relationship with his girlfriend Cat (Jayma Mays). But Heelan isn’t really in a hurry to see Katie and Greg date each other.

“The slow burn is far more interesting,” Heelan told TV Insider when asked if she would like to see Katie and Greg as lovers. “And I think any relationship that’s going to stand the test of time has got more than one dynamic going on. Also, I met my husband (Rene Gube) when I was working and we got to see one another as coworkers before we were ever romantic. Listen, it worked out for me, so I guess I’ve got a little bit of a bias in there.”

Elsewhere in the next episode, Chuck (John Michael Higgins) discovers that the reason for Justin’s (Horatio Sanz) newfound happiness is the cute new barista at the coffee shop and proceeds to compete for her affection at the expense of his and Justin’s friendship.

“Great News” Season 2, episode 9, titled “Love Is Dead,” airs on Thursday, Dec. 28 at 9:30 p.m. EST on NBC. Watch the sneak peek below:
