You can’t stop the beat! Wednesday night will see the premiere of NBC’s “Hairspray Live!,” the network’s fourth dip into the live show genre since 2013.

“Hairspray Live!” won’t follow in the exact footsteps of the Broadway show and the latest film incarnation, which debuted in 2007, but is based on the Tony-award winning musical.

The story follows a Baltimore girl Tracy Turnblad (Maddie Baillio) who dreams of singing and dancing professionally. When she tries out for the local hit dance series “The Corny Collins Show,” she finds herself becoming the program’s newest star, much to her nemesis Amber Von Tussle’s (Dove Cameron) upset. What ensues is a romance with the show’s lead, Link Larkin (Garrett Clayton), and her joining the fight to make the show radically integrated in 1962.

After months of preparation from the cast, viewers will get to see Baillio bust onto the scene as star Tracy Turnbland Wednesday night. She’ll be joined by dozens of A-listers on the small screen, including pop signer Ariana Grande, who play her timid best friend Penny Pingelton, and Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad, who previously won a Tony for his role.

Elsewhere in the special, Kristin Chenoweth and Cameron brings the villainous mother-daughter duo Velma and Amber Von Tussle to life. Other stars in the production include Ephraim Sykes as dancer Seaweed J. Stubbs, Jennifer Hudson as Motormouth Maybelle, Derek Hough as Corny Collins and many more.

“Hairspray: Live” premieres on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. EST on NBC and runs until 11 p.m. EST. Being that the show is live, make sure you tune in on time or record it properly so as not to miss a single performance.

NBC doesn’t have any scheduled repeats to air, so those who miss the performance can pre-order a DVD of the show. The DVD retails for $22.98 on NBC’s official store and ships Dec. 20. Those more interested in the soundtrack can also pre-order it for $11.98. The CD, which includes hits such as “The Nicest Kids in Town,” “Good Morning Baltimore” and “Without Love,” is expected to ship Dec. 9.
