“Insecure” Season 5 has yet to premiere, but HBO has revealed some major news about Season 6 of the popular series. After four seasons on the air, the Emmy-nominated comedy will end following Season 5.

Issa Rae, the star and executive producer on the show, announced Wednesday that the series, which is also produced by Prentice Penny, would conclude with the upcoming season.

“Prentice and I are so grateful that HBO believed in our show from the beginning and kept faith in us to see our vision through the end,” Rae said in a statement to Deadline.

“We always planned to tell this story through five seasons, but we couldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support of our audience.”

Rae went on to say she was grateful she was given the opportunity to wrap up the show she co-created. “I feel blessed beyond measure to bring our characters’ stories to an end, on-screen at least,” she added.

HBO’s Programming EVP Amy Gravitt praised the cast and crew of “Insecure” for their work on the show. “Issa has turned insecurity into an iconic form of comedy,” the premium cabler’s Programming EVP Amy Gravitt said in a statement.

“The show is as incisive as it is heartfelt, and it has resonated strongly with its audience because of the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast, and the writers have put into it.”

Gravitt then shared her excitement about what the future holds following the end of the series.

“This talented team has conceived a brilliant final season for Insecure and we look forward to having many more stories to tell with this singular group of collaborators,” she said.

“Insecure” stars Rae, Yvonne Orji, Natasha Rothwell, Jay Ellis, and Amanda Seales.

The show is expected to begin production on the fifth and final season this month. The fourth season ended in May 2020. “Insecure” Season 5 is expected to premiere on HBO later this year.
