Valeera's Bag Of Burgled Spells: for when you don't want to strategize Blizzard

This week’s Hearthstone Tavern Brawl is “Valeera's Bag Of Burgled Spells,” which throws a bunch of crazy spells at Azeroth’s deadliest Rogue. It’s an old Brawl that Blizzard brings out whenever they have a week they need to fill, I guess the design team needed a week off after celebrating the start of the Year Of The Mammoth.

Both players get a deck full of random spells that also summon a random minion of the same cost when cast. It’s a fun Brawl where luck matters way more than good play. Getting a Faceless Summoner off of a Polymorph can be game changing, unless your opponent has a Silence waiting in hand for next turn.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when playing this week’s Tavern Brawl.

  • Because each card is worth double its value, games tend to ramp up really quickly. Ball Of Spiders isn’t as bad as it is in Arena or any other game mode.

  • Minions get summoned before the spell activates, so the summoned minion gets the buff from the spell you just played. It also works the other way, if you play a Twisting Nether, you’ll summon an 8-mana minion that will die instantly.

  • Removal wins games, a Flamestrike that summons a Bog Creeper is a dirty way to win.

  • This Tavern Brawl uses Wild rules, so every spell is up for grabs. Playing Living Mana after Implosion will always put a smile on my face.

  • Remember, that this is supposed to be a fun Tavern Brawl, you can crush your opponent into the ground in one game only to lose embarrassingly to a Blessing Of Kings on a Nesting Roc.

  • My favorite spells to play are Polymorph, Firelands Portal, Forgotten Torch and anything else that clears minions or damages my opponent. I enjoy Tavern Brawls that don’t require a lot of strategy or depth the most, after getting my butt kicked on ladder over and over, it’s nice to just queue up for something where I don’t have to win.
