They started off the season in a tumultuous way with double COVID-19 diagnoses which kept them out of the ballroom for two weeks, but since a return to Season 30 of “Dancing With the Stars,” Cody Rigsby and Cheryl Burke have been doing everything to try and win—and now they could call themselves champs after making it to the finals.

Though their illnesses gave them some stumbles, which led to rehearsal footage and streamed performances from separate locations that earned low scores, since coming back onto the show and being cleared, #TeamBooCrew has been winning over viewers on the ABC competition series, and eventually convinced the judges to get on their side as well. While their fellow finalists have higher scores overall, this season has been unpredictable and fiercely competitive since week 3, meaning that there still is a very real chance that Cody could take the Mirrorball.

Pros

They Are An Entertaining Team

One thing that no one can deny when watching Cody and Cheryl perform is that they are having a good time and that infectious nature has made them entertaining to watch throughout the season. That entertainment has made them memorable, which has helped them keep getting through week after week, even when the judges haven’t been as impressed by Cody’s technique or footwork. With the Freestyle round on deck, entertainment may be the key that gets them the Mirrorball—and if there’s something Cheryl is known for it is entertaining and memorable Freestyles, since her Season 2 routine with Drew Lachey is still ranked among the top performances on the show.

They Have A Strong Fanbase And Have Never Been In The Bottom Two

One thing that has also been a big advantage for the two has been that they seemingly have a strong fanbase watching the show and voting for them, which is evidenced by the fact that the pair has never been in the Bottom Two throughout the entire competition. This is a huge advantage going into the finals because there is no longer a judge’s save. When the results are tallied from viewer votes and judges’ scores, the celebrities will all fall into their official place, no matter where they are in the viewers’ hearts. If Cody’s fanbase has been strong enough to keep him out of the bottom this entire time, then his chances seem a little higher at getting a Mirrorball when compared to fellow finalists Jojo Siwa and Amanda Kloots, who have both been there.

Cheryl Hasn’t Won In A Long Time

While trends in the last few seasons have favored Mirrorball wins for pros who have never won before and Cheryl does have two previous Mirrorball wins to her name, it has been a very long time since then. She won in Seasons 2 and 3—which both aired in 2006. Rumors have also been flying for a couple of years that she is going to consider retiring for good as well. If this potentially is her final season, it would be a big way to send her off if her fans help her and Cody get her a third and final Mirrorball.

Cons

They Have The Lowest Average

Unfortunately, while they have been impressing the judges more lately, Cody and Cheryl do have a big disadvantage in the form of their scores. Not only do they have the lowest average of all the finalists (with a score of 31), but of the final four teams, they are the only ones to never receive a perfect score at all. In addition, they’ve only managed to get two 10’s total the entire competition, which doesn’t bode well heading into a final round of competition where they’re going up against Jojo (who has received four perfect scores and 24 10’s total).

Cheryl Has Won

While Cheryl not winning for quite some time now is an advantage, the fact that she has won at all is still a disadvantage because the final four teams are not made up solely of pairings with pros who have previously won. With one pro still in the competition that doesn’t have any Mirrorball trophies to their name, the competition could still be just out of grasp.

The “Dancing With the Stars” Season 30 finale airs Monday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. EST.
